About Us

Books Aloud, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supported by donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, trusts, businesses and service clubs. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for people unable to benefit directly from the printed page by providing a service to stimulate minds, stir emotions and foster independence through our "Reading by Listening" program.

The Books Aloud "Reading by Listening" Program provides a wide variety of recorded reading literature to eligible individuals of all ages. We keep the "Magic of Reading" alive for our clients. This is a FREE service.

ELIGIBILITY: Blind, visually impaired, learning disabled or physically disabled individuals who are unable to read conventional print, hold a book or turn pages are eligible.

News from Books Aloud

As a Special Needs Teacher you are qualified to receive FREE services from Books Aloud as follows:

Sight and Sound

Printed and audio books are combined in a “kit” and lent together, allowing a sighted reader with a learning impairment to follow along while listening. Our selection covers early childhood through adult.

Mini-Library

You may establish a classroom library with 2 track tape players, headsets and 10 to 40 audio books and sight and sound kits. Materials are updated monthly as requested by you. And in 2013 we have a pilot program of providing audio books on the Nook Tablet along with the printed book.

Just fill out the application; mark the top with “Mini-Library” and return to us. We will be happy to provide you with this incredible resource for your students.
